I get that it's meant to be satire, but I don't even find many of the jokes that funny. It's a really fun book, but it constantly negates that fun as well by adding in way too many 'popular culture' references into it. Especially really gross references that I don't personally enjoy, like joking about kinks and fetishes (Carl gets multiple creppy foot fetish 'achievements' for killing creatures with his bare feet.).

I also don't know if I like Carl or not. He seems like a bit of a meh main character to me at the moment. I'm hoping he gets better. I think that if I don't end up liking the book by the end then I won't bother with the rest of the series. We shall see.

I do like the reader of the audiobook though, it's very well done!
