Bookshops and Bonedust

Premise:

A prequel to Legends and Lattes. Viv is injured in a battle and stays behind in a nearby town while her company go to continue their hunt. Bored and not sure what to do while she recovers, she finds a local bookshop to spend her time. She becomes fast friends with the bookshop owner, a ratkin and various other residents of the town of Murk.

It took me a little longer to get into this one than the first book. It has a similar charm, but it feels very different from the first. However I quickly became very interested in all the necromancer magic and Viv's internal struggle of wnating to get back out and fight, but instead having to slow down her usual work and relax.

I also really loved Maylee, she was a really interesting character and a very interesting point of tension for Viv I think. THe fact that she was hopeful but not forceful that Viv might give up her life of fighting was really realistic and I loved that.

Overall I like the first book better, but this one was an interesting look into what her life was like before giving it all up to run the coffee shop.

I'll write a more in depth look at this book later, I'm just writing this while I wait for dinner to finish cooking so I don't quite have the time to write down my full thoughts just now.
